The Nicholas G. Xiarhos Fund

 
 

The Xiarhos Family has created a found in honor of Nicholas. The Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Fund is designed to support local military families in need of financial assistance, wounded warriors and their families In addition to assisting these military families, the fund also provides support to these ongoing programs:

·        The Nicholas G. Xiarhos “Does Most for Others” Annual Scholarship dedicated to the male and female graduate who steps forward and lives a life of service and does the most for others in need.

·        The Yarmouth Police Relief Association Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Scholarship dedicated annually to the graduating student who pursues a proactive career in service and protection through leadership in law enforcement.

·        Big Nick’s Gift to Our Troops which with the amazing dedication of Linda and Bernie Sullivan of Sandwich has sent over 1200 Care Packages from Cape Cod to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan .

·        Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Blood Drive is held annually at Yarmouth Police Headquarters and has collected more lifesaving blood than any other blood drive on Cape Cod .

·        The Corporal Nicholas G. Xiarhos Young Marines of Cape Cod which is a dedicated group of young men and women future Marines from our area based out of Camp Edwards at Otis Air Force Base in Falmouth .

·        Big Nick’s Ride for the Fallen which is an annual motorcycle ride that honors all of our Cape Cod Fallen heroes and this year will raise awareness and funds for Massachusetts Iraq and Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial Fund.

·        The Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Field House located at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School offers students and athletes at DY a beautiful space and facility on our football field for years to come.

·        Baker-Xiarhos AMVETS Post333 located at Yarmouth Police Headquarters provides a wide range of support for Cape Cod Veterans and their families.

·        Team Big Nick which runs road races in honor of those who no longer can in support of charities all over the United States .  Team Big Nick has run the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C and the Boston Marathon in historic Boston, Massachusetts, as well as the world famous Falmouth Road Race, the Cape Cod Canal Run for Our Troops, the New Bedford, Harwich, and Hyannis Half Marathons, the Boston Firefighters Memorial, as well as over 100 local 10K and 5K runs for charities.

·        Mentors in Violence Prevention which offers teenagers support and protection from sexual abuse, domestic violence, and bullying through the amazing work of Independence House and the students and staff of Barnstable and Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High Schools .

·        The Cape Cod Times Needy Fund which raises money to help local families and individuals pay for food, rent, mortgage payments, utility and heating bills, medical costs and other basic expenses

·        The Boston Red Sox Foundation and the Massachusetts General Hospital Run to Home Base which raises funds annually that will provide clinical care for veterans with combat stress or traumatic brain injury; support services and counseling for wounded vets families; research into improving treatments and preventing these devastating injuries that effect as many as 30% of troops returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan; and community education for health care providers, clergy and the public

·        Cell Phone for Soldiers which collects old and no longer needed cell phones and recycles them in to calling cards so our brave troops can call home at no cost from anywhere in the world.  There is nothing like the sound of a loved ones voice…

·        Cape Cod Care for the Troops which sends care packages overseas to our troops fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as provides much need support and assistance to our wounded Veterans back home.

·        The Falmouth Military Support Group which is a non-profit 501 c 3 organization staffed and managed entirely by volunteers founded in 2003 and organized exclusively for charitable purposes. It is the Falmouth Military Support Group’s mission to provide moral and physical support to our areas service members serving abroad and also when they return home.

·        The Massachusetts Iraq Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial which is a group of dedicated volunteers that is raising funds that will build a memorial to the over 170 Iraq and Afghanistan fallen heroes from Massachusetts and their families in historic and patriotic Boston .
